What We Are About
The HiDad Project is an ally and peer-support nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe place for
the LGBTQIA+ community, or for those who need a space to speak freely and receive emotional support that they
may not be able to find in their lives. HiDad will be open to all individuals interested in a place for support,
acceptance, love, and to have the freedom to be who they are, without fear of reprisal or ridicule, as well as those who
need advice when other resources are not available. Our primary goal is to allow all the members of our program
to thrive and find strength in their truth.
How We Got Started
The HiDad Project was started by a simple response to a comment on TikTok from a member of the LGBTQ+
community who shared that they were disowned by their family when they came out of the closet. As a result
of this comment, one of the founders set up an e-mail address for people to write in to have a conversation
with “Dad”. This video response went viral and the e-mail address received over 700 messages within the
first 48 hours of operation. This inspired us to make The HiDad Project a legitimate non-profit organization
so we could help as many people as possible.
Values
Some of our values include aggressive positivity, peer support, and allowing others to live their personal
truth. Aggressive positivity involves recognizing the negatives of a situation without focusing on them. By
giving attention to the positive, we can help the downsides or “what if” worries look a little smaller.
Our peer support is most commonly given by volunteer staff who provide a listening ear to others in need. While we may share our own personal experiences or offer suggestions based on the same, we are not trained counselors. Rather, we work to help our members that are in crisis to cope until they are able to contact professionals.

Programs
Our primary focus is providing community peer support to those who need it. We operate an online community
that is fully moderated to ensure the safety of our participants.
In today’s climate of anti-LGBTQ legislation and policy, our voices as allies and advocates are needed more than ever. We will always be loud and unwavering supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, no matter the cost.

How you can help
Every donation helps. While we are currently a 100% volunteer organization, donations assist us in
recruitment of volunteers and help us pay for comprehensive background checks.
